Warren County Celebrates National Travel and Tourism Week
MASON, OH - (May 2, 2013) -In celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week, Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau recognizes the tourism industry's tremendous economic and social impact at a county, state and national level.
The first full week of May, this year May 4-12, is annually recognized as National Travel and Tourism Week, and this year tourism partners across the nation encourage families to travel together to create lasting memories as part of a national awareness campaign, The Travel Effect.
According to a new poll conducted by Harris Interactive, found at TravelEffect.com, some of life's most cherished memories are formed on family vacations. The U.S. Travel Association encourages families to make the time to travel this summer.
"These new research findings should encourage parents to plan family trips this summer as a way to strengthen family bonds for generations," said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. "Families that take time to travel together will have stories to share for years to come."
In addition to the effect on travelers, tourism also has a direct impact on the local, state and national economies.
"With nearly $1 billion in economic impact, tourism is the leading industry in Warren County," said Phillip S. Smith, President & CEO of the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Our area attracts nearly eight million annual visitors, who help support more than 10,000 jobs. No other county in Southwest Ohio is more dependent on tourism for jobs, so, obviously, the continued growth of tourism here is important to all citizens of Warren County."
Tourism in the state of Ohio supports more than 440,000 jobs, and in 2012 -- including indirect and induced spending--tourism generated $2.7 billion in state and local taxes and $2.6 billion in Federal taxes.
Travel and tourism is also one of America's largest employers, supporting 14.6 million jobs and generating nearly $2 trillion in economic output nationwide.
