Warren County Celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week

WARREN COUNTY, OH (April 29, 2015) -- In celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week, the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB) recognizes the tourism industry's social and economic impact at the county, state, and national levels.

Celebrated each May, National Travel and Tourism Week serves to encourage recreational travel nationwide, highlighting its importance to the job market, as well as both economic and personal development. This year's celebration will span from May 2-10.

According to the United States Travel Association (USTA), tourism accounted for $2.1 trillion in economic output and $927.9 billion in direct travel-related spending in the United States in 2014. The industry also generated $141.5 billion in federal, state and local tax revenue, while supporting 15 million American jobs.

Locally, total tourism spending in Warren County recently surpassed $1 billion for the first time in history, according to a study by the State of Ohio. The county’s number one industry, tourism accounts for one in every eight jobs, or 12.7 percent of Warren County's workforce.

"We welcomed more than 11 million tourism-related visitors in 2014, and look forward to welcoming even more in the years ahead," said Phillip S. Smith, President & CEO of the WCCVB. "No other county in Southwest Ohio is more dependent on tourism than ours, so we're proud to support the USTA in their efforts to recognize the industry's many successes."

In honor of National Travel & Tourism Week, the WCCVB will host a "Ride & Roar" sweepstakes on its official Facebook page Monday, May 4 through Friday, May 8. One randomly-selected entrant will be awarded four tickets to Kings Island, four tickets to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, and a one night stay at Mason's Hampton Inn Kings Island.
