Warren County Celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week
WARREN COUNTY, OH (April 27, 2016) – In celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week, the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB) recognizes the tourism industry's social and economic impact at the county, state, and national levels.
Celebrated each May, National Travel and Tourism Week serves to encourage recreational travel nationwide, highlighting its importance to the job market, as well as both economic and personal development. This year's celebration will span from May 1-7.
According to the United States Travel Association (USTA), tourism accounts for $2.1 trillion in economic output annually, and generated $947.1 billion in direct travel-related spending in the United States in 2015. The industry also ranked among the top 10 employers of American workers in 49 of 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia last year.
Locally, Warren County enjoyed record visitation in 2015, welcoming more than 11.8 million tourism-related visitors. Total tourism spending in Warren County also recently surpassed $1 billion for the first time in history, according to a study by the State of Ohio. The county’s number one industry, tourism accounts for one in every eight jobs, or 12.7 percent of its workforce.
"Tourism has never played a more significant role in Warren County than it does today, and we fully expect its importance will only grow from here," said Phillip S. Smith, President & CEO of the WCCVB. "We are more dependent on tourism than any other county in Southwest Ohio, and it’s for that reason we’re happy to support the USTA in their efforts to highlight the industry’s importance.”
In conjunction with National Travel & Tourism Week, the WCCVB is hosting a "Best of Warren County Family Prize Pack Giveaway” on Facebook through Sunday, May 8. One randomly selected entrant will be awarded four tickets to Kings Island, gift certificates to local establishments Whit’s Frozen Custard and Golden Turtle Chocolate Factory, and a weekend-night stay at TownePlace Suites Northeast/Mason.
