Warren County CVB Earns National Award for Achievement in Sports Tourism
Warren County, OH (November 19, 2018) – The Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB) has been named a 2018 Champion of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism by Sports Destination Management, a leading publication in the sports tourism market.
The honor, which was announced today, was granted to the WCCVB for its planning and management of the World Flying Disc Federation’s (WFDF) 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships held in Warren County this past July.
That tournament featured more than 3,000 athletes from 36 different nations, and generated an economic impact of more than $10.5 million for the local economy. The week-long event, which was one the largest sporting events ever hosted in the region, also accounted for more than 15,000 room nights at local hotels and B&Bs.
Ben Huffman, Director of Sports Enterprises for the WCCVB, credits the event’s success not only to his staff, but to their numerous community partners.
“We’ve been creating, managing and hosting sporting events here at the WCCVB since 2004, but the World Ultimate Championships were on a whole other level,” said Huffman. “This was an incredible, global event that really put Warren County on the map as a sporting destination, and we owe a ton of thanks to the WFDF, the Cincinnati Ultimate Players Association, our local hoteliers and the cities of Mason and Lebanon for their support. We were thrilled with the success of the tournament, and are equally thrilled to see that success recognized by Sports Destination Management."
Fellow award winners included such events as the 2018 NFL Draft and the 2018 NCAA Final Four, among others. All award winners have been featured in Sports Destination Management’s November/December issue and in an online article available here.
