Warren County Expecting Record Economic Impact Via Sports In 2015
WARREN COUNTY, OH (January 23, 2015) – The economic impact of sports marketing in Warren County, Ohio, is expected to reach a record $40 million in 2015, the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB) has announced.
Warren County Sports, a department of the WCCVB, plans to host more than 100 sporting events in 2015, accounting for more than 178,000 visitors and 70,000 room nights at local hotels and bed & breakfasts.
Highlights of this year’s event schedule include the NCAA Division III Tennis National Championships, Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) State Tennis Championships, Big East Conference Cross Country Championships, Hogan’s Lacrosse Midwest Challenge, and Rivertown Throwdown — a new Ultimate Frisbee tournament created locally with the help of the WCCVB.
“Tourism is the leading industry in Warren County, with more than $1 billion in annual spending by visitors, and sporting events have been a major driving force in visitor attraction, as athletes and their families travel here from all over the nation and other countries,” said Phillip S. Smith, President & CEO of the WCCVB.
Ben Huffman, Director of Sports Marketing for the WCCVB, says he and his team not only hope to further grow the County’s reputation as a sporting destination in 2015, but to also highlight the area’s tourism appeal as a whole.
“Every year we bring as complete and exciting an event lineup to the table as possible, and I think we are definitely going to deliver in 2015,” Huffman said. “We are incredibly excited to welcome athletes from all over the globe, and to share with them all of the unique attractions—both sporting and otherwise—that make our region special.”
