Warren County Prepares to Host NCAA Cross Country National Championships
MASON, OH (October 30, 2014) – The 2014 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships are heading to Warren County, Ohio, this November, according to Warren County Sports and host school Wilmington College.
Mason, Ohio's Golf Center at Kings Island will welcome more than 500 runners, including the nation's top 32 programs, at the November 22 meet.
"It’s incredibly exciting to bring such an elite meet to Mason and the Greater Cincinnati area," said Wilmington College Head Coach and NCAA Meet Director Ron Combs. "There are so many great Division III programs throughout the country, and we think they are going to be really impressed with everything Warren County has to offer. It’s one of the best spectator courses in the region, and one that has us hopeful for a great fan turnout."
The Mason course will also be home to the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional, a qualifier for the National Championships, which will host 40 men’s and 40 women’s teams November 15.
“We are honored that the NCAA has awarded us multiple championships and look forward to showcasing what Warren County has to offer both student athletes and spectators during these two events,” said Ben Huffman, Director of Sports Marketing for the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The Golf Center at Kings Island, the Lindner Family Tennis Center, and the City of Mason have been wonderful partners for years, and bringing them together for this highly competitive event is a testament to Warren County and its attitude of collaboration.”
Huffman estimates the meets will account for an economic impact of more than $1 million, benefitting the local community.
Mason is also scheduled to host to the 2015 BIG EAST Conference Cross Country Championships in October of 2015, as well as the 2015 NCAA Division III Tennis National Championships May 18-23.
