Warren County Projects Record Economic Impact Via Sports in 2016

WARREN COUNTY, OH (January 27, 2016) – The economic impact of sports marketing in Warren County, Ohio, is expected to reach a record $42 million in 2016, the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB) has announced.

Warren County Sports, a department of the WCCVB, plans to host approximately 107 sporting events in 2016, accounting for more than 185,000 visitors and 72,000 room nights at local hotels and bed & breakfasts.

“Tourism is the leading industry in Warren County, and sports tourism has become a driving force of the industry,” said Phillip S. Smith, President & CEO of the WCCVB. “More and more athletes and their families from all over the globe are traveling to Warren County each year to compete in and watch our sporting events, and we fully expect that trend to continue as our reputation as a sporting destination grows.”

Highlights of this year’s event schedule include the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s (OHSAA) Boys and Girls State Tennis Championships, the Midwest Showdown basketball tournament, the U.S. Junior Nationals basketball tournament, the 7th Annual Kings Island Invitational youth baseball tournament, and the 5th Annual Warren County Summer Slam youth baseball tournament.

Ben Huffman, Director of Sports Marketing for the WCCVB, says he and his staff hope 2016’s slate of events will not only further cement Warren County’s reputation as a sporting destination, but also serve to showcase the region’s tourism appeal as a whole.

“When people travel for sports, their experiences don’t stop when the whistle blows or the clock runs out,” Huffman said. “The fact that our county can offer athletes and their families wonderful entertainment, restaurants and hotels—in addition to great on-field experiences—really makes Warren County the total package as a sporting destination.”
