Warren County to Host Inaugural Obstacle Course Racing World Championships
MASON, OH – March 4, 2014 – The 2014 Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) World Championships will take place on October 25 and 26 at Kings Domain in Warren County, the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB) announced today.
This event is the first-ever OCR World Championship event, and will take competitors through an approximately eight-mile course that blends natural terrain with challenging obstacles. Participants must complete a qualifying race and meet additional criteria specific to that race.
Kings Domain is home to extreme terrain mud obstacle challenge course, Mud Guts and Glory. While the OCR World Championship event course will share some of the same terrain and obstacles as other Mud Guts and Glory events, a significant portion of the course and obstacles will be new to athletes and unveiled only on race weekend.
“We are thrilled to have been chosen to host the OCR World Championship,” said John King, Race Director for Mud Guts and Glory. “We’re excited to unveil the new sections and obstacles to those familiar with MGG and to introduce our venue to athletes from all over the world converging on Cincinnati and Warren County in October.”
The two Mud Guts and Glory races, held on May 24 and August 16, will be qualifying events for the OCR World Championships. The Mud Guts and Glory course combines five miles of demanding terrain with more than 30 man-made obstacles designed to be both challenging and fun.
“Obstacle Course and adventure racing is a huge trend in adult fitness and having a top notch facility in our county producing first class events is a wonderful asset,” said Ben Huffman, Director of Sports Marketing for the WCCVB. “We are excited to see Mud Guts and Glory expand their events and we look forward to a great partnership with them moving forward.”
