Warren County to Host NCAA Tennis National Championships Week of May 17

MASON, Ohio (May 12, 2015) – Sixteen of the nation’s top NCAA Division III men’s and women’s tennis programs will meet at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason to compete for singles, doubles and team titles Sunday, May 17 through Saturday, May 23.

The Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB) welcomes the 2015 NCAA Division III Tennis National Championships, and is co-hosting with Ohio Northern University. Teams from Maine to California will be in competition, including those from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of California Santa Cruz, Johns Hopkins, and Bowdoin.

“We are incredibly honored to welcome such a talented group of student athletes and look forward to introducing them to Ohio’s Largest Playground, Warren County,” said Phillip S. Smith, President & CEO of the WCCVB. “Our region has hosted world-class tennis continuously since the 19th Century, and we have no doubt these outstanding collegiate players will only add to that legacy.”

While the Lindner Family Tennis Center has long been home to the Western & Southern Open, one of the oldest and most prestigious events on the international professional tennis circuit, next week’s tournament will mark the facility’s first NCAA National Tennis Championship.

“I can’t imagine a more wonderful opportunity for these athletes and their families,” said Ben Huffman, Director of Sports Marketing for the WCCVB. “Most of these players have grown up watching stars like the Williams sisters, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer play on these courts, and now they’ll have a chance to do the same.”

The WCCVB and Lindner Family Tennis Center also will host the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Girls State Championships in October and OHSAA Boys State Championships in May of 2016.

The NCAA DIII National Championship is open to the public and admission is free. Fans should visit ONUSports.com for schedule and competition information.
