Warren County, Xavier University to Host Big East Cross Country Championships
MASON, OH (October 21, 2015) – Warren County, Ohio will welcome hundreds of collegiate runners and their supporters later this month as it joins Xavier University in hosting the 2015 Big East Cross Country Championships.Scheduled to be held at Mason’s Golf Center at Kings Island October 31, the championships will feature nine men’s teams and 10 women’s teams from Big East programs Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Villanova and Xavier.
“We’re extremely excited to bring such a prominent collegiate event here to Warren County, and to show these athletes and their supporters everything we have to offer both on and off the course.” said Ben Huffman, Director of Sports Marketing for the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB). “We’ve been working alongside Coach [Ryan] Orner and the rest of the Xavier staff for a long time on this one, so we’re really anticipating a terrific event.”In addition to its nearly 600 participants, Huffman estimates the meet will also draw numerous out-of-town spectators, accounting for more than 200 hotel room nights and $90,000 in economic impact for the region.The men’s race will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, while the women’s will start at 11:40 a.m. Both races are free to spectators, and on-site parking will be available for $5.Warren County previously played host to the 2014 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships in November of 2014.
